The human brain is a fascinating organ. It contains billions of cells and is constantly sending electrical signals to the rest of the body. One of the many jobs of the brain is to process information from our five senses. The brain has to figure out what it is taking in, what it means, and how to react.

So what does all of this have to do with humor? Well, it turns out that our brains are wired for humor.

Scientists at the University of Colorado-Boulder published a study in the journal Cerebral Cortex that found that humor is processed in the same region of the brain as cognitive tasks like problem-solving, memory, and language.

The study authors believe that our brains process humor so that we can better understand social interactions and connect with people at a personal level.

So next time you’re feeling down and need a quick laugh, instead of scrolling through memes on your phone, try cracking open a book or watching a comedy show.
